Benefit Saturday January 7th

Dear Friends, Neighbors and Fellow Musicians:

In the not so distant past I, like many of you, had access to music education in my public school. I was able to learn piano and flute and to be a part of a band and musical performances. This greatly enriched my life and has in part, shaped who I am today. But times have changed and it’s no secret that children today have limited or no access to these vital music programs.

I am organizing a benefit through my school with a local area non profit, American Clothing Experiment, because I believe in kid’s right to music education. The benefit will be at Tonic Lounge Saturday, January 7th 2012. The festivities start at 4pm with food and drink specials, a silent auction and live music until late. It is the goal of this benefit to collect used musical instruments, raise funds to increase youth access to music education programs. Donated instruments, 10% of food/beverage sales, admissions proceeds and funds raised from the silent auction will benefit Ethos Music Center and My Voice Music Programs!

Scientific research shows how imperative it is to train the young mind musically for well balanced brain development. Children that learn how to play a musical instrument have higher cognitive function than children that don’t. The benefits of learning to play an instrument spill over into the other areas of learning, resulting in higher test scores and increased learning ability. In addition to the increased overall learning benefits, learning to play an instrument builds self-esteem and feeds the emotional well being of our youth.

We need your help! If you have new or used but in good shape musical instruments, services, gift certificates, goodies for raffle or artwork for the silent auction, or would like to Donate toward this cause, please Donate Now!
