Welcome Thom Heavey and the Veterans Service Programs

Petty Officer 2nd Class Thomas R. Heavey Jr.

Thomas Was born in 1980 and raised in Tacoma, WA.  Raised in a military family, he served his community leading projects with effects felt both locally and internationally with the Boy Scouts of America.  In 2001 Thomas married his high school sweetheart, A member of the U.S. Army, and deployed to Wiesbaden, Germany as a dependant spouse where he saw the effects of deployment upon soldiers and their families.  Upon his return from Germany Thomas served one year in Americorps with the Alliance for Children, Youth and Families helping refugees and immigrants find employment in addition to running a k-8 summer camp. He enlisted in  the United States Coast Guard Reserve in 2006 where he has served for the last 6 years, 5 of those being on active duty with deployments to Haiti and Kuwait.  He is currently serving on active duty at USCG Station, Vallejo.  In addition he is an active member of the Flux Foundation a groundbreaking non-profit metal arts collective located in Oakland, CA.  Thomas started with the Experiment in the summer of 2012  to head up their Veterans Programs.  He is an avid sailor, camper, and has a general love of arts and all things outdoors.
